Agility Seminars with Brenda Kelly

Brenda is a 9-time world team member having competed in 3 international venues (European Germany 2015 – with Luna; IFCS World Agility Championships 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and World Agility Open 2019 and 2020 -- with Deja Vu; IFCS World Agility Championships 2022 and 2023 with James). Achieving a variety of top 10 international placings with both Vu and James , she and Deja Vu brought home a silver medal from the World Agility Open in 2019. She has also enjoyed success medaling and topping the podium many times at regional and national events that include USDAA Cynosports National Champion Grand Prix, Steeplechase, Biathalon and Team; AKC Nationals National Champion, and the UKI US Open Finalist/Bronze medalist.
Brenda's Accomplishments:
Brenda came to the sport of dog agility from a life time of athletic pursuits including 35+ years competing and training in the equestrian disciplines of show jumping and dressage as well as being a black belt martial artist and instructor. She possesses a B.S. from Georgetown University and has spent much of her professional career directing a national solution engineering team focusing on learning development, coaching and problem solving.
Brenda loves the mental and physical challenges that agility presents. She believes strongly in a training process that is positive and full of enthusiasm and fun for both dog and handler. With her passion for dog training, she stresses the importance of developing the dogs’ skills so that they have a clear understanding of how to perform their job with high confidence and competence.
Brenda takes the time to assess and train the specific dog and handler team in front of her. She focuses on choosing achievable handling strategies that are effective for that team, providing the earliest possible information and best lines for the dog. Achieving a balance between dog training and handling skill is critical to long term consistency and success.
She is committed to helping each team reach their greatest potential! She is open to working with multiple methodologies and has acquired insights and experiences from a wide variety of talented resources that include Stuart Mah, Jenny Damm, Anastasia Egorova, Silvia Trkman, Dawn Weaver, H360, Shape Up Agility, OMD and others.
Payment, Deposit and Refund Information

A deposit of 25% of the seminar is required to hold your spot.

Full payment for the seminar is due by the hard closing date of the seminar.

A cancellation fee of $10 for each seminar spot will be applied if cancelling between the soft closing date and the hard closing date.

A full refund will be given any time before the soft closing date.

NO REFUNDS will be given after the hard closing date (11:59 pm of the closing date).

Refunds are completely up to the discretion of the seminar host - in certain cases of illness, death, acts of God, etc. full or partial refunds may be given on the day of the seminar in form of account credit, cash, PayPal, etc.

We will allow payments to be made in small increments up to the hard closing date.

Spots may be sold/given to friends if a participant cannot come and the payment will be the responsibility of the original participant.

International/Premiere Sequencing
Friday, December 15th, 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Teams will work through courses that contain elements of UKI, USDAA and AKC Premiere courses. How do we handle those technical pieces and create lines that are clear to the dog? This workshop will present different options for handlers on those challenging sequences with backsides, threadles, and discriminations galore!
**Dogs should have been introduced to these concepts before this seminar. We will be using jumps, tunnels and weaves only.**
Novice/Open Sequencing
Saturday, December 16th, 9 am - 12:30 pm

We will work through novice type sequences and common sequencing combinations often seen at the beginner levels of agility. Teams will strengthen their skills they have as well as be presented with challenges to work towards to get ready for harder sequencing. **jumps and tunnels only**
Sends, Layering and Distance Drills

Layering (in a nutshell) means there will be an obstacle between you and the dog on course. Teams will work through several different scenarios that present layering options. How do we get the layering and distance we need on course? Some courses require a layering challenge, while other courses may present layering opportunities. We will discuss where the dog's line is and when the line needs to be set in order to get the best distance and layering on course!

Working through open/masters type sequences, teams will be presented with different scenarios and will work through which handling choices are best for their dog. When we need to put in a side change, we basically have three options on courses: a front, blind or rear. Choosing the wrong handling option may result in a refusal or off course. Learning where your dog is committed, when they need the information and how to relay that information to the dog is very important.
**we will be using jumps and tunnels only, but dogs should be able to sequence and run about 10 -15 obstacles**
